Worms! ! ! January 24th

Image
We have the thrill of hosting a whole bunch of wriggly Red Wrigglers in our classrooms for the next six weeks.  We'll be vermicomposting (worm composting), learning about how we can do this ourselves.  Assuming all goes well, we will get a lot of great castings from the worms, which we can use to grow more plants in the spring.  Students learned how to handle them, how to tell how old they were, how composting works and why it's helpful for the environment.

Kid Inventor Day- January 17, 2019

Image
For Kid Inventor Day, grade four students teamed across the two classes to think of some of the environmental problems we have in the world.  Many of those were waste related, as we have been studying this recently.  They then formed small groups and dreamed up inventions that could help solve these problems.  They sketched and explained them, and then built & shared prototypes. What's going on with the hats?  Why, they are all THINKING CAPS, of course!
