Seed Dispersal Building Challenge - November 2018

Image
In our learning about plants, students found out that seeds can be dispersed by many different ways in nature.  It's important for the ultimate success of plant species.  In small groups, they were challenged to design and build a seed pod that would successfully spread seeds as far as possible, given certain conditions.  Some were going to be in a windy environment, some would have furred animals passing nearby and others could only use gravity.  Many groups had the opportunity to give their prototype some testing.  Eventually, they went through a final testing process.

Remembrance Ceremony - November 9, 2018

We have no photos of the ceremony, as it is a solemn one and photos aren't allowed.  Our grade fours did a wonderful job performing "Please Wear a Poppy", a fairly long poem that explains why wearing poppies is important.  We were very proud of the job they did, and how well they represented our school.

New Calgary Public Library - field study November 7th, 2018

The new downtown Central Library had JUST freshly opened when we went to it on November 7th.  We had a tour of the children's section first, and then explored in small groups with our parent volunteers.  It's a huge space, and very beautiful.  Some students checked out books, and we think we will be back again later on in the year!
