Naturalization Area

On our first Friday of school, we spent some time journaling in the Naturalization Area.

At this time in the Naturalization Area, Lexi was observing a patterned plant. 

Taym was very happy.
Dylan was sitting and writing in his inquiry journal. 

We were sketching a non-seed plant.



Jane and Aazlynn found a ladybug.


Aryan stopped to sketch a beautiful yellow flower.
Mattias is "peacing out" after seeing the camera.


Taym was looking at something while somebody took a picture of him.

Sam was walking through the naturalization area to show his teacher his sketches. 

We were sketching the long leaves. 

We are showing our natural colouring.

Harvest time for Room 306

Today we harvested our beets/beet leaves, radishes, kale, mint and basil.  Everything was so fresh and delicious!  A few leftovers are being offered for the school conferences.  Many students were surprised and disappointed to hear that by harvesting everything off these plants, we would have to uproot and kill them, or take all the leaves off and therefore kill them.  We are making way for another growing project: tomatoes! We are keeping our Morning Glory plants going, because the way they are climbing is just amazing!  It will be really interesting to watch where they keep growing, and what they manage to wrap around.

Robogals - Free Coding/Programming workshops for girls

HEY, Kids!   Robogals UCalgary is holding a series of Robotics workshops on Saturdays starting February 9th, 2019 until March 2nd, at the University of Calgary.  The workshop is completely free and run by our Robogals UCalgary undergraduate student volunteers from the University of Calgary. Kids will learn about Engineering and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) concepts through simple programming challenges with LEGO EV3 Mindstorm Robots. The target age group is 8-12 years old (no previous programming knowledge required).
